Hamilton will film two shows before Lin-Manuel Miranda leaves on July 9th

Lin-Manuel Miranda is officially leaving his starring role in his Tony / Grammy / Pulitzer-winning musical, Hamilton, on July 9th. Contracts for most of the cast are up on that date, and Miranda's co-star Phillipa Soo will also be departing. Obviously ticket prices for Miranda's last show have already jumped up to a starting point of over $2,000.
That's the bad news.
The good news is that the production plans to film two performances before original cast members start leaving. Miranda says he doesn't know what will become of the footage, and joked about "throwing it in a vault at Gringotts." Personally, I think it would be nice if it were available exclusively on DVDs with hand-drawn artwork and doled out for free, like a recording of a junior high dance recital!

n any case, it is a glimmer of hope for anyone who hasn't managed to squeeze their body into New York's Richard Rodgers theater yet and really wants to see the show with its original cast.
Javier Muñoz, who also replaced Miranda when he stepped down from the lead role in In the Heights and performed the role of Hamilton the night that Beyoncé and Jay Z were in the audience, will take over on July 11th.

Both the PBS documentary about the the production of the musical and the mixtape of remixes featuring Chance the Rapper, Sia, and Busta Rhymes will be coming on "October somethingth," according to Miranda. In the meantime: as you may recall, Gringotts is notoriously difficult to break into — but it's not impossible!
